Free health and safety workshop for businesses

South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) will be opening the doors at its Berkeley Green Campus for a series of workshops and presentations on the latest legal Health & Safety obligations for businesses.

Limit Your Risk - Don't Let Your Business Get Caught out by the Law will run Thursday, December 14, from 3pm-7pm, with the workshops detailing current legislation across a wide range of areas.

Businesses will be offered the chance to speak with specialists who will be on hand to offer advice on the most suitable training available at SGS Berkeley Green to meet specific demands.

Attendees will also be able to develop a training plan for their business based on a training needs analysis.

Workshops and presentations will include:

  • Health & Safety Compliance - NEBOSH
  • Risk Management - IOSH
  • Food Hygiene /General Health & Safety
  • Asbestos/Confined Spaces/Working at Height
  • Fire Management/First Aid/Health & Safety Awareness

Attendees will be able to select the workshop they wish to attend, which will include examples of negligence, together with responsibilities and penalties on a first-come-first-served basis, with a question and answer session at the end.

The importance of Health & Safety standards in the workplace has never been more apparent, with the Government's Health & Safety Executive publishing figures that show over 600,000 workplace injuries recorded in 2016/17, along with a staggering 31.2 million working days lost due to injuries or illness.

George Ridd, site director at SGS Berkeley Green, believes the event will be beneficial to businesses in the region in addressing this.

He said: "It's vital that businesses keep up-to-date with the latest Health & Safety legislation, and get the right kind of training and support for their employees.

"SGS College and the new Berkeley Green Campus are at the forefront of offering events like this and the training that goes with it."
