Former police officer steps up to key county role

Succeeding Roger Deeks, who held the commission for three years, Richard Bradley is the new Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire and will hold the responsibility until the end of July 2028.

Mr Bradley, 58, has lived in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire for more than 50 years and currently lives in Willersey. He was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant in 2024 and, prior to that, served as a Police Officer with Gloucestershire Constabulary while he has also worked for the Local Authority. He retired as Chief Executive of the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner in 2022.

Edward Gillespie, Lord-Lieutenant, said he was delighted to announce the move, adding that Richard's background with the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner's Fund, which has supported 675 community-based projects, is "particularly valuable to the Lieutenancy, which promotes and celebrates the contribution of volunteers in our communities."

In the OPCC role, Mr Bradley was responsible for the commissioning of services for victims of crime, sexual violence and domestic abuse, ensuring every victim received the best possible support.

He added: "Richard is also a member of the County's Registration Service Team, which the Lieutenancy supports through our attendance at Citizenship Ceremonies. I am very grateful to Roger Deeks DL for serving in this role throughout the historic period following the change of Monarch in 2022. Roger will continue to be a valuable member of our Gloucestershire team."

Mr Bradley was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of the Gloucestershire Lieutenancy in July 2024, a role which, in September, saw him represent the Lieutenancy at the Memorial Dedication Service of the Gloucestershire Regiment at the National Memorial Arboretum, in Staffordshire.

Lord-Lieutenant Gillespie added: "Richard is personally committed to supporting and working with the communities of Gloucestershire and considers that the role of Vice Lord-Lieutenant will enable him to continue this very important work.

As a former member of the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire's Grants Panel and a former Trustee of the Gloucestershire Community Foundation, Mr Bradley isalso a member of the Gloucestershire Registration Services Team, where he is currently employed as a Casual Celebrant and Registration Officer.

In his spare time, he enjoys walking, cycling, golf and world travel with his wife Debbie.
