Former newspaper offices set to become car park

A town council is planning to purchase former newspaper offices and turn them into a long-stay car park.

Dursley Town Council says it has an agreement in principal to purchase the Reliance House site, the former Dursley Gazette newspaper office in Long Street Dursley.

The town council said the new long-stay car park will help visitors, walkers, traders, employees, and residents.

On its website the town council said it was aware that this development was needed after the closure in 2015 of the previous long stay car park at the rear of Long Street.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Suzi Abraham said the lack of parking had a negative impact on the town.

A planning application to the Stroud District Council will be submitted later this week to apply for 'a change of use' to allow the land to be used as a public car-park.

The Mayor Cllr Neil Grecian has asked anyone who has contacted the council in the last two year about town centre parking to submit comments on the application via Stroud District Council's website.

For further information on this project, please contact the Town Clerk at clerk@dursleytowncouncil.gov.uk  or telephone 01453 547758.
