Former car dealership site sold for £1.9 million

A former car dealership site has been bought for £1.9 million by an independent Gloucestershire builder's merchant.

Acting on behalf of Hylton Group Limited, Colliers International has disposed of the former Renault and Nissan dealership on Manor Road, Cheltenham.

It has been sold to Bence, the Cheltenham-based builder's merchant who plan to convert and re-open a store later this year.

Earlier this year the George Bence Group opened its fourth branch, located just outside Bourton-on-the-Water. Managing director Paul Bence is the fifth generation to run the 164 year old company.

The unit in Manor Road, Cheltenham extends to approximately 19,689 sq ft, across 1.21 acres of land and is situated within an established commercial location, close to Gallagher Retail Park, which hosts a number of national retail occupiers including Next; Hobby Craft; Boots; DFS; Sports Direct and Oak Furniture Land.

John Roberts, Head of Automotive and Roadside at Colliers International said: "This sale to Benchmark Building Supplies reveals that there is a good level of interest for sites coming out of the sector for alternative uses.

"The subject property is located fronting Manor Road, which is accessed via the Tewkesbury Road (A4019), a main arterial route within Cheltenham which links directly to the M5 Motorway so will benefit from a lot of passing traffic and trade."
