Bank in Cotswold town to be turned into luxury boutique hotel

The former HSBC Bank in Moreton-in-Marsh will be turned into a luxury boutique hotel and restaurant.

Plans to turn the 19th century, Grade II Listed Old Bank building into a 10-bedroom hotel were approved by Cotswold District Council planners this week.

The Bank which sits on the corner of the High Street and Bourton Road is at the heart of the Cotswold town.

The plans were submitted by the Barons Eden Group, who own three other hotels, including the Dial House in Bourton-on-the-Water.

The Group also has Huxleys Café and Bar in Chipping Campden in its portfolio alongside hotels in Burton-upon-Trent and Newark-on-Trent.

On their website, the group say their modus operandi is to "provide high-quality service within distinctive surroundings."

HSBC left the site in 2017 and the building has since been empty.

The new development will see the ground floor, which was formerly the bank turned into a restaurant, with the former banking counter moved but retained as a bar.

A minor extension will be built at the rear of the building to contain kitchens.

The first and second floor that were originally a townhouse will be transformed into 10 en-suite bedrooms, including one three-room suite.

According to the application the equivalent of 10 full-time jobs will be created by the new hotel.

The current 'Old Bank' signage will be retained, according to the designs. Work must begin on the transformation within three years.
