Forest Green goes on a beach blitz

A hit squad of ambassadors and volunteers from Forest Green Rovers football club blitzed the beach at Weston-super-Mare in a big clean up organised by waste management experts Grundon.

Through the club's ambassador scheme, a team of dedicated helpers were kitted up by Grundon for a special day combatting beach pollution, which has been identified as one of the pressing issues facing our natural landscape.

A spokesperson for FGR said: "Our volunteers set out to clean up a local beach, determined to make a difference. Armed with sacks and high-vis vests supplied by Grundon, the enthusiastic group scoured the beach collecting discarded waste that not only ruined the shorelines but posed a severe threat to marine life and ecosystems.

Grundon added: "Our volunteers removed litter and guided FGR's young ambassadors through the ins and outs of waste, discussing the impact of each material found, and what should rightfully be on a beach - which is nothing but sand, shells, and natural beauty."

But the collected waste didn't just end its journey there. Committed to closing the loop, Grundon ensured that the waste was initially taken back to FGR's Nailsworth home where it underwent a sorting process before being collected by Grondon for final recycling and recovery.

Working on a goal to achieve 100% recycling of its waste for the club, Grundon and FGR's partnership

kicked off in 2012 and has been a real game-changer in supporting many community initiatives to drive sustainability and environmental consciousness.

Grundon has also supported FGR's Ambassador Scheme since its inception in 2015 and the scheme sees around 100 youngsters from 60 schools and colleges spreading the word about sustainability and participating in activities to learn more about how they can protect the planet.

The firm recently renewed its commitment to the scheme, extending the relationship for the (2024/25 and 2025/26) seasons.
