Food store closes but major investment on the way for shopping centre

Co-operative Food is closing its store in Eastgate Street, Gloucester.

A spokesperson for the Co-operative confirmed it would shut on August 31.

Whilst it is sad to see the Co-operative Food store closing some may question why it opened in such a location in the first place in what is primarily a non-food retail area.

The good news is that the new owners of Kings Walk Shopping Centre, urban regeneration specialists Reef Estates, have announced plans for major investment.

Reef has formed a strategic partnership with Gloucester City Council to regenerate Kings Walk Shopping centre that will create "a vibrant and exciting shopping environment."

This includes a new future for the former BHS stores which is in a prime location.

Reef have a promising track record. They have experience in a variety of sectors including retail, residential, mixed use, hotel and leisure, office as well as 'alternative' sectors such as student housing and care homes.

Importantly, Reef have substantial financial resources and the know-how to make it happen.
