Floating boat café in Gloucester Docks causing a stir

Gloucester Docks, known for its historic charm and picturesque waterfront, is now home to an exciting addition that promises to tantalise taste buds.

The Cafe on the Cut, which was a successful café on a narrowboat operating for years in Gloucester, has undergone a transformation and has now re-launched as "The Boat on the Docks," a new larger floating boat café.

Located in the heart of Gloucester Docks, The Boat on the Docks offers a unique dining experience in a serene and historic setting.

As the name suggests, this floating café brings a fresh, nautical twist to the city's culinary scene. With 24 covers, it's not just a café; it's an unusual and fun experience.

One of the standout features is its mouthwatering menu, featuring a fusion of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavours. Diners can look forward to an array of savoury and sweet delights, including:

  • Halloumi, falafel and lamb kofta pitas
  • Veg, chicken and lamb tagines
  • Pearl couscous with falafel, halloumi or lamb kofta
  • Fresh salads
  • A selection of cakes including gluten-free brownies and flapjacks

The culinary team is committed to using the freshest ingredients and preparing each dish with care. The team use local suppliers where possible and are sourcing delicious cakes from a home bakery in Stroud.

The venture is a partnership between Leo Thomas-Lawton, Dhiran Dhijal and chef Tom Mills.

Leo said: "We are thrilled to be a part of Gloucester Docks' vibrant culinary landscape. Our unique concept offers a serene escape for all our guests to enjoy a good coffee and cake, or savour delicious, handcrafted food while enjoying the vibrant waterfront atmosphere of the docks."

The Boat on the Docks is currently open from 10am to noon and then from 12.30pm to 5.30pm from Tuesday through Saturday, and then from 10am until 4pm on Sunday.

The café boat has plans to expand its operating hours to offer evening dining in the near future, evolving into a delightful waterfront restaurant for those seeking a romantic dinner or a memorable night out.

Leo added: "We can't wait to extend our hours and create unforgettable evening experiences as well."
