Man dies in flat fire

A man has died following a fire at a Cirencester property today.
At 7am this morning, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call to a fire at Kemble Drive.
A fire engine from Cirencester arrived on scene within three minutes, forcing entry into the property, followed by other fire crews.
Some 60 per cent of the ground floor maisonette was severely damaged by fire.
A Gloucestershire police spokesperson said: "
The fire service attended and rescued a man aged in his 50s from the property. They immediately administered CPR and defibrillation but sadly the victim was later pronounced deceased.
"The man's death is currently being treated as unexplained but officers believe that the death is not suspicious.
"Police are working with fire investigators to establish the cause of the fire and the coroner has been informed."
John Beard, assistant chief fire officer, said: "This incident highlights the importance of working smoke alarms."
