Fire hits city centre hotel

A hotel room was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of yesterday morning (September 29).

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 3:56am to reports of a fire on the first floor of the Station Hotel in the city centre, as reported by the BBC.

Nobody was injured, but GFRS said the room was "100% damaged" and the first floor of the hotel had been "80% damaged" by smoke.

GFRS was on the scene for just under two hours. It said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Station Hotel is very close to Gloucester's £107 million The Forum development, which is nearing completion.

In July, plans to turn the first and second floors of the hotel into emergency accommodation for homeless people were approved on appeal.
