Fire closes popular visitor attraction

A popular visitor attraction in Gloucester is closed following a fire at the weekend.

Fire broke out at JDR Karting on Bristol Road on Saturday (March 23) afternoon.

The venue, which offers go karting, axe throwing, laser tag and segways, catering for children's parties, team building days and stag and hen parties, will remain closed until Wednesday (March 27).

JDR Karting wrote on Facebook: "We can confirm there has been a fire, which is now contained and extinguished, emergency services are currently carrying out checks to ensure all areas of the building are safe. All customers and staff are safe.

"Any cancelled bookings from today will be able to be rescheduled or refunded. We are so sorry for the inconvenience.

"We are grateful that no one was hurt. Emergency services have been fantastic."

Following the fire, Bristol Road was closed for several hours, while six fire engines fought the blaze.

JDR later confirmed that the building is intact and thanked the local community for its support.

On Wednesday, laser tag, children's petrol karting, adult petrol karting, race events and the café will reopen.

The kids' track, axe throwing and archery facilities will remain closed until further notice.
