Final hurdle cleared for 180 home development

Cheltenham Borough Council has given planning permission for the demolition of glasshouses at a site on Old Gloucester Road.

It has also given permission for the demolition of empty, derelict semi-detached houses on the site, known as Arle Nursery.

It is the final piece of the puzzle before a development of 180 new homes by Tewkesbury-based Bromford Housing can go ahead.

The plans include 40% affordable housing, access, landscaping, drainage and other associated works.

Of the 108 homes for open market sale, eight would be flats and 100 would be houses.

The affordable homes would be split into 58 for social, affordable or intermediate rent and 14 for affordable homes ownership.

It's hoped the buildings will be knocked down imminently, as the site has been increasingly targeted by vandals.
