Festive fun for young carers at Gloucestershire Airport
29th November 2017
Staverton-based aviation charity, fly2help, will be throwing a truly memorable Christmas party on Saturday for deserving young carers from around the county.
After a successful year's fundraising as Gloucestershire Airport's charity of the year, fly2help will be laying on a special 'Air Smiles' day for around 20 young people from Gloucestershire Young Carers, who all face the challenges of caring for a family member.
They will be going behind the scenes at the airport where a range of activities are planned, from making paper aeroplanes to having snow ball fights and enjoying the celebration cake provided by Asda in Cheltenham. They'll also meet Douglas Bear, the charity's mascot, who will be arriving by aeroplane with some presents donated by The Entertainer and volunteers.
Kim Davenport at fly2help said "This is going to be the first Christmas Party we have held at the airport and we are going to make it one to remember. We are looking forward to meeting the young carers from Gloucestershire and giving them a much deserved day out."
Ele Semadeni, operations lead at Gloucestershire Young Carers, said "This opportunity to bring young carers together at the airport is just great. It will be a very different Christmas party and we would like to thank fly2help and all of their supporters and donors for making this happen."
Another exciting part of the day will see award-winning function band, The DeciBelles entertaining the children and singing their new charity single 'Take Flight', which will raise money for fly2help.
Last year The DeciBelles collaborated with local photographers 'Your Digital Memories' and embarked on a musical journey concluding in the release of an original charity single and music video for the song 'Take Flight', which is available on iTunes and will be officially released for download on other music platforms.
Fly2help is a Gloucestershire-based charity that uses the power of flight to raise the spirits of people young and old, living in difficult personal situations and inspire young people as they consider their future lives.
Gloucestershire Young Carers supports around 1000 young people around the county whose lives are affected by having to cope with having family members who are ill, disabled, experiencing mental ill health or who are affected by substance misuse.
