Everyman Theatre backs farm charity during panto season

Panto stars at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham have teamed up with a unique charity based on a farm in the Cotswolds to help raise funds and awareness for their vital work with young people with disabilities.

Each year the Everyman raises funds for a Gloucestershire charity working with young people and have chosen to support the work of Scrubditch Care Farm during the run of Cinderella which opens on November 29.

Scrubditch Care Farm, at North Cerney, near Cirencester, is a small local charity supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities in Gloucestershire.

They provide therapeutic farm-based training and aim to improve independence, physical and mental health and wellbeing; all leading to increased self-esteem.

The charity was launched in 2010 and is a secure and safe environment where students feel at home. They work hard and have a real sense of pride with their achievements at the end of each day.

The charity's founder, Emma Costley-White, said: "We are thrilled to have been chosen as this year's charity for the Everyman's pantomime, Cinderella.

"Any funds raised during the pantomime season will be put towards fitting out our cookery room. This is a very important add-on for our students, as we grow a lot of produce. We realise that learning to cook with fresh produce (that they have grown from seed) plays a vital role in students' self-esteem."

The Everyman's chief executive Mark Goucher added: "I am hugely impressed with the care and commitment that Emma and her team show to all the people they help.

"This is a fantastic local charity which relies totally on fundraising, so I hope our audiences dig deep to help them achieve their dream of creating a working kitchen."

There will be collections after selected shows but donations can also be made over the phone by calling the box office on 01242 572573 quoting 'Scrubditch Care Farm'.
