EXCLUSIVE: Eroticats wants to bring lapdancing to new venue in Cheltenham during race events

Lap dancing club Eroticats plans to bring its dancers to a second venue in Cheltenham during multiple race events.

An application has been made to hold sexual entertainment at 30 Cambray Place which is currently being turned into a new venue for the town.

It will be a "luxury tea and coffee house" by day and at night transformed into a "fantasy cocktail bar" with seven themed rooms.

The property was previously home to Wild Beer and Ginstillery and already has an Sexual Entertainment Venue (SEV) licence for the March race meet, issued by the council in January 2023.

Red Apple Associates has now submitted an application (23/01596/SEXA) to Cheltenham Borough Council to renew and vary the licence.

It would cover sexual entertainment events for 17 days between October and May, mostly between the hours of 8pm to 5am.

The venue is opposite Tailors pub and restaurant and Cambray Baptist Chruch.

The public has until November 13 to submit comments of support or objection to the council.

Eroticats has already created controversy in town with its existing lapdancing nights which see racegoers ferried from Prestbury Park directly to the doors of the club at Under The Prom.

European Events Consultants Ltd was granted a SEV licence for the venue in Promenade at the start of the year for Cheltenham Festival in March.

Last month it was granted an extension to cover the November Meet- a move which resulted in Conservative MP Alex Chalk calling for strip clubs to be banned in Cheltenham .

His comments ignited a row with Lib Dem Cllr David Willingham, chair of the licensing committee who said the Secretary of State for Justice was better placed to change the law on SEVs.

A loophole in the law allows SEVs to effectively operate 'underground' on an infrequent basis without a licence.

The council has said licensing the venues means they are subject to strict conditions and checks.

Supporters of Eroticats have said the events are always well run and licensing them makes them safer.

Eroticats, Red Apple Associates and European Events Consultants Ltd are all run by director Steven Burrows.

He declined to comment on the application.
