Educator appointed trustee of Gloucestershire charity

A Gloucestershire charity supporting outdoor learning has appointed a new trustee.

Dr Zainab Kabba is the new trustee of Fairford-based The Ernest Cook Trust. She is an educator, writer, researcher and strategist.

She said: "I am delighted to become a trustee of The Ernest Cook Trust at this moment of its evolution and growth. As a passionate educator with a strong belief in setting young people and communities up for transformative learning experiences, the goals and values of the Trust align with my own. I am excited about embarking on this journey alongside a talented team, to enhance the excellent work for which the Trust is renowned and create positive impact that is seen and felt for years to come."

Dr Kabba has managed children's media projects across the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa, developed leadership programmes for higher education institutions and created portfolios of public digital learning programmes.

She is the founder and CEO of Quotidian Strategies, which provides qualitative research services and strategic advice to public, private and non-profit organisations, looking to innovate and create positive impact by using insights from research and lived experience.

Dr Kabba holds a BS in information systems from New York's Stony Brook University, an MA in computing in education from Columbia University, and a DPhil in education from the University of Oxford.

Her appointment complements the broad range of expertise among the current trustees.

Mary Riall, chair of the board of trustees, said: "We are excited to welcome Zainab to the Trust. As an educator and researcher, she brings a wealth of talent and experience. She is an excellent communicator with a deep understanding of the processes around effective decision making and bringing people together as a team. We are sure she will make a strong contribution to the work we do to support Outdoor Learning."

The Ernest Cook Trust funds and delivers programmes across the UK, aimed at enabling access to outdoor learning for young people, their families and communities. The charity is committed to helping develop a lasting love of the outdoors and providing opportunities for young people to move into land-based careers.

Programmes run by The Ernest Cook Trust include funding the employment of outdoor learning officers, who promote the benefits of getting outdoors to young people and their communities. Under its Outdoor Essentials Grant scheme, grants are given to schools across the UK, to fund activities, equipment and transport to support outdoor learning.
