Easyjet profits soar

Budget airline Easyjet is on track for record profits this year.

Customers are forgetting their money worries in favour of booking summer holidays, as reported by This is Money.

Easyjet said summer bookings were in line with its goal to make £703 million profit in the 12 months to the end of September.

It added that third and fourth quarters are already 80% and 42% sold respectively.

The airline said more holidaymakers are opting for farther-flung destinations this year such as Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt and Morocco, while classic locations like Spain, Greece and Portugal are still popular.

Easyjet's previous record was £686 million, set way back in 2015.

And the company's package holiday arm, which launched in 2019, is on track to meet its target of £250 million profit earlier than expected.

Easyjet posted a loss of £394 million for the six months to the end of March, which is in line with expectations for the winter.

The airline is set to create 130 new jobs next year by reopening a hub at Newcastle Airport in response to growing demand.
