Dunelm boosted by online sales

Dunelm sales were up in its second quarter and first half overall, thanks to a strong online performance.

Sales at the homewares retailer, which has stores in Cheltenham and Gloucester, were up 1.6% to £490m for the 13 weeks ended December 28. Sales for the first half overall rose 2.4% to £894m, as reported by Retail Gazette.

The figures were boosted by a 3% rise in online sales across the first half, with ecommerce making up 39% of total sales.

Dunelm also reported strong growth in click and collect, as it increased the number of products available to collect in stores.

The retailer expects its full-year gross margin to be between 51% and 52%, with full-year profit in the range of £207m to £217m.

Dunelm acquired 13 stores in Ireland and opened its first inner London store during the first half. It plans to open five new superstores in the second half of the financial year.
