Village club receives energy lifeline from Mypower

Dumbleton Village Club, in rural Gloucestershire, has seen local commercial rooftop solar PV installation business Mypower help secure its future in the village by reducing its ongoing energy costs.

Over the last few years, energy costs have risen significantly, presenting an existential threat to the club. So now, exactly one year after installing a solar PV & battery system at Dumbleton Village Club, the community is celebrating a successful year of renewable energy savings and environmental impact.

This is thanks to Mypower's design and installation of the system free of charge and engaging with their supply chain to secure generous contributions from various equipment and plant providers.

The Total project, which would have cost around £17,000, has been delivered at no cost whatsoever to the club. Installed in November 2023, the solar PV system has delivered remarkable results. Over the past year, the system has:

Reduced CO2 emissions by 1.2 tonnes, contributing to the community's efforts to lower its carbon footprint.

Cut electricity costs by over £1,400, enabling the club to reinvest savings into club improvements and helping the village residents.

Generated 5,860 kWh (units) of clean energy - enough electricity to run 40 of the club's locally-famous fish & chip nights and 35 of the club's Sunday roasts, all powered completely free by the sun!

Overall, the system will provide around a quarter of the club's electricity needs, reducing their overall energy costs year on year, and solidifying the club's future for generations to come.

This project would not have been possible, if not for the support from several local and national companies who generously donated their services and products to ensure the success of the installation. Mypower and the club are extremely grateful to:

• Q Cells who provided 16 x 400 W solar panels

• SolarEdge contributed 1 x 5kW inverter and 16 x panel optimisers

• CCL Components and a private donation provided a 1 x 5kW / 10kWh battery.

• Sunfixings designed and provided a bespoke roof mounting system

• JBM Scaffolding supplied full scaffolding and safety equipment for the whole project

• Rocket Rentals donated the use of their plant hire equipment to lift the panels to the roof-level.

• Edmundson Electrical provided electrical components.

• Mypower raised all the funds and provided the design, project management and the team to install the system.

Club members and local residents have praised the installation for its seamless integration and noticeable impact on energy bills, together with the subtle design and positioning of the installation, unseen by almost everyone in the village.

The project highlights the power of community partnerships and Mypower's commitment to helping organisations transition to sustainable, cost-effective energy solutions.
