Gloucestershire-based transport specialist CM Downton has bagged a contract renewal with Glatfelter, a global supplier of specialty papers and engineered products.
Downton, whose head office is in Moreton Valence, manages all aspects of Glatfelter's operations under separate contracts, some of which started in the 1990s.
This includes warehousing of raw materials coming from the Far East, supplying these materials on an in-bound, just-in-time basis to Glatfelter's UK manufacturing plants, all finished goods warehouse operations, and shipments throughout the UK.
This latest renewal, worth an undisclosed sum, covers the transportation of paper reels used for manufacturing tea-bags and coffee filters.
Under the contract, Downton transports palletised reels of paper from Glatfelter's manufacturing plants in Lydney, Gloucestershire, and South Wales to beverage producers including the majority of the leading brands located throughout the UK.
David Hutchings, head of business development at CM Downton, said: "We have a long-term relationship with Glatfelter and have been managing various aspects of their logistics operations for many years.
"This latest contract renewal shows that our partnership approach provides stability for our customers and helps them improve their supply chain activities and achieve their business objectives."
Downton, which was founded in 1955, has customers including some of the UK's largest companies from a range of sectors including print and publishing, food and drink, retail, manufacturing, ink and paper, energy, waste and consumer goods.
The business employs approximately 1,350 people at 12 distribution hubs located throughout the UK.
Downton operates 600 tractor units and 1,800 trailers.
