Dobbies to close Gloucestershire stores

Dobbies is to close two Gloucestershire stores, as part of a restructuring plan.

The Gloucester store, close to Junction 12 of the M5, and the Little Dobbies stores on Cheltenham Promenade are both up for the chop.

Little Dobbies in Cheltenham only opened in April last year, in the retail unit vacated by Gap.

The closures will leave just two Dobbies in the county - in Cirencester and Tewkesbury, which will shortly be celebrating its two-year anniversary in the town.

Gloucester and Cheltenham are among 17 unprofitable stores which are closing, as Dobbies aims to "address historically uneconomical rent costs and ensure a return to sustainable profitability", as reported by Retail Gazette.

The garden centre is set to close 11 larger stores and six Little Dobbies stores, putting jobs at risk for 465 staff.

Dobbies will also work with landlords to try to cut rents at another nine stores.

Gloucester, Cheltenham and the other affected stores are all expected to close by the end of the year.
