Dobbies bucks retail trend as sales reach £252m

Dobbies Garden Centres Group Limited has posted its latest financial results, revealing a 51 per cent sales rise to £252 million for the 53 weeks to March 1, 2020.

Like-for-like sales for the business, which has branches in Gloucester and Cirencester, increased six per cent. Underlying EBITDA also increased by 39 per cent to £25 million.

Chairman, Andrew Bracey, said: "We have a clear strategy for growth at Dobbies and we are encouraged by the progress made during FY19/20. The business has continued to demonstrate its resilience as we navigate the challenges of COVID-19."

Dobbies acquired 31 stores during the period, increasing its portfolio to 69 garden centres nationwide. It has plans to open a further site at Designer Outlet Cotswolds at J9 of the M5, at Ashchurch near Tewkesbury when it opens in Autumn 2022.

Chief Executive Officer, Graeme Jenkins, said: "During FY19/20 Dobbies delivered a robust performance through a period of significant change. I would like to thank all of our team members for their support and commitment. In line with our strategy, we are continuing to grow and invest in Dobbies. This includes in our garden centre network, our customer offer and our team."
