Designs come to life on street cleansing vehicles

Four children in the Forest of Dean have seen their artwork recreated on two of Biffa's street cleansing vehicles, as their prize for winning a competition by the #LoveYourForest anti-litter campaign.

Hundreds of primary-aged school children took part in the competition to design a poster to highlight the problem of rural litter.

The competition was held in support of the wider #LoveYourForest campaign, which also saw a district-wide tour of the Trashconverter van, where litter could be exchanged for treats.

Designs by Mayah Chappell, Kate Brown and Amber Edey (pictured below) - along with a poster designed by Bizzy Davis (pictured with Mayah) who was voted overall winner and also won a £50 voucher for Bream Primary School - are now displayed on the sides of Biffa's street cleansing vehicles.

Last week the winners were given the opportunity to view their artwork first hand as the vehicles paid a visit to their respective schools.

Glenn Redwood, community lead for #LoveYourForest, said: "We received hundreds of entries and narrowing these down to just four winners proved a difficult task as all the posters were of such a high standard. The designs we have chosen reflect a wide variety of themes and will act as a permanent reminder to all that see them to act responsibly when it comes to litter disposal."

Elizabeth Chirgwin, Headteacher at Bream Primary School, said: "This is the second year the school has been involved with the #LoveYourForest campaign. We hope by educating pupils not to drop litter early on, they will take this learning with them throughout their childhood and into their adult lives. The pupils were really excited to see Bizzy and Mayah's designs on the vehicles and share in their success."

The street cleansing vehicles are used daily by crews as they carry out their duties which include cleansing the four Forest town centres, litter picking roadside verges, emptying litter bins and collecting fly-tips on behalf of the Forest of Dean District Council.
