Multi-million pound organic farm business to convert warehouse into gym with 25 metre pool

A warehouse on a farm in the Cotswolds area of outstanding natural beauty is about to be converted into a new gym and clubhouse.

The building, currently used for "workshop warehouse and distribution" purposes will become a two-storey leisure centre.

If we tell you its working title is the Bamford Warehouse Gym those in the know will guess currently its location is New Farm Daylesford.

Founded by Lady Bamford, wife to Conservative peer Lord Bamford, the billionaire chairman of JCB and director of the Centre for Policy Studies, the Cotswold business has become a success story in its own right.

Last filed accounts (from December 2018) for Daylesford Organics, also based at New Farm, show a business turning over almost £26 million with a grows profit of £9.4 million.

Just-granted planning permission for tweaks talk of "Change of use from workshop warehouse and distribution (Class B1/B8) to a gym and clubhouse with ancillary facilities (Class D2) including associated external works) for alterations to the design of the building."

Planning permission was initially won back in April.

Plans include treatment rooms, staff rooms, studios, a 230.9 sq metre of gym, private grooming room, reception, club room and bar, retail, showers, male and female changing, lifts and retail area and a 25-metre pool.

"The approved development achieved the change of use of the building to provide 1,062sqm of D2 leisure use".

Opening hours are expected to be between 8am and 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

Travel plans, which cover staff and customers, to and from the site as outlined in the earlier planning documents include car sharing and cycling and walking and public transport initiatives.

The planning documents also point out that New Farm, Daylesford is located within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) where development must conserve or enhance the natural beauty of the landscape, its character and special qualities.
