Dame Janet Trotter joins board of much-loved Gloucestershire charity

Former Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire Dame Janet Trotter has joined the board at one of Cheltenham's best-loved charities.

Dame Janet, OBE DBE CVO, was appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire by The Queen in 2010, a role she relinquished in 2018.

She is chairwoman of the Nelson Trust and a governor of the Barnwood Trust and has now been named as a trustee at Lilian Faithfull Care, which dedicates itself to providing care, support and a home for life to the elderly of Gloucestershire.

"I believe that having excellent services available to elderly people in the county is a priority: they are one of our most vulnerable groups," said Dame Jane.

"I joined the Lilian Faithfull Board because the organisation is a charity; any surpluses are ploughed back into improving resident care and rewarding their incredible staff and because I wanted to support the commitment to high quality and innovative services into the future."

Dame Janet is one of ten Trustees at Lilian Faithfull Care along with Patron The Rt Hon Countess Lady Bathurst.

As a charity, Lilian Faithfull Care is governed by an experienced board of trustees. This volunteer team, all experts in their field, meet regularly with our executive team to set the strategic direction and oversee the work of the charity.

Before Dame Janet became a Trustee she was a friend of the charity and officially opened our new conservatory at Astell House in October 2018. She then became a co-opted Trustee in December 2018.

She began her working life as a teacher, lectured in a range of higher education colleges and was the founding vice chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire.

She has held a number of posts within the NHS, including as regional chair (1996-2000) and chair of the Gloucestershire Hospitals Foundation Trust (2002-2010).

Dame Janet received an OBE in 1991, a DBE ten years later and a CVO in 2018.

Lilian Faithfull Care was founded in Cheltenham in 1946 by its namesake Lilian Faithfull.

With five care homes and two day centres, it provides a wide range of support including day care, respite, assisted living, residential and nursing care. With specialist knowledge of dementia and end of life care.

Martin Hughes, CEO said: "We take pride in caring for those who helped form our way of life and putting care before profit."
