Covid takes big bite out of McDonald's profits

McDonald's - the fast-food chain with branches across Gloucestershire - had to seek help from its American parent company last year as Covid took a big bite out of profits.

The company's 2020 financial results show an operating loss of over £30 million.

Total turnover, which is made up of sales from company-owned restaurants and royalties from franchises, fell by 31% to £970 million.

The UK arm of the company made a loss of £32.1 million compares with a profit of £345 million.
