County school named Independent Boarding School of the Year

Cheltenham College has been recognised as Independent Boarding School of the Year by Independent School Parent.

The award, published in The Guide to Independent Schools Autumn 2022, commended the boarding school, saying it provides pupils with a vibrant and life-enhancing experience, which meets the needs of pupils and their families.

The winning entry focused upon Cheltenham College's welcoming atmosphere, together with its inclusive, tight-knit boarding community with the following areas standing out to the judges:

• Cheltenham College is a home from home, where the house system fosters friendships across all year groups, whilst nurturing critical leadership skills

• The positives of a jam-packed social life. The calendar of weekend events encourages wellbeing and develops leadership skills and positive participation

• The Say You're in, Call it Out initiative, which promotes consultation, understanding and positive community values

• Recognising the value of giving back to the community, with community action work seeing more than 200 pupils volunteer their time to local causes every week

Nicola Huggett, head at Cheltenham College, said: "We are delighted to have been named Independent Boarding School of the Year 2022-23. As a co-educational full boarding school for pupils to grow up, side by side, we pride ourselves on excellent pastoral care, impressive yet homely boarding houses and a huge range of activities and opportunities that are available for each and every pupil, whether they are day pupils or boarders.

"A boarding experience enables you to make friends for life. The award recognises the dedication of our wonderful house staff and tutors, whose priority is to ensure pupils are happy, fulfilled and ambitious. We love what we do, and we are extremely proud to have earned this accolade."

Cheltenham College is an independent day and boarding school, providing education for boys and girls from ages 3 to 18.
