Five Gloucestershire firms make the cut in the London Stock Exchange Group's 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain report - and they are all from Stroud district.
The firms are Impcross, the specialist precision engineering company at Thrupp, green energy supplier Ecotricity, recent Queen's Award winner Advanced Insulation Holdings Limited, Thrupp-based logistics firm Howard Tenens Limited and Stonehouse-based Passionate About People Limited
Impcross provides components for the aerospace, Formula 1, military, petrol-chemical and automotive industries.
Ecotricity now supplies renewable energy to over 200,000 homes across the UK.
Alan Beresford, CEO, Passionate About People, said: "This is the first year we have been listed in the report and highlights the positive growth of the Passionate About People Group of companies.
"To be listed as a company to inspire is remarkable and testament to all of the hard work, dedication and passion shown by our staff."
Also mentioned in the 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain list is Merlin Cinemas which has cinemas across the South West including the Studio Cinema in Coleford.
This is the fifth edition of the London Stock Exchange Group's annual report identifying the country's fastest-growing and most dynamic Small and Medium Sized Enterprises.
Companies on the list saw revenue growing at a rate of 71 per cent on average.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond said: "Small businesses are the backbone of the British economy with a combined annual turnover of £1.9 trillion and employ 60 per cent of private sector workers outside of London.
"That's why, whether they are family run firms or tech start-ups, we are supporting high growth SMEs to achieve their potential."
Nikhil Rathi, CEO, London Stock Exchange, said: "We warmly congratulate all of the companies identified in this year's '1000 companies to Inspire Britain' report. Five years on, the report continues to demonstrate the strength and diversity of British businesses across the country. These dynamic companies are the backbone of our economy, playing an important role in the UK's ability to innovate, export and grow.
"With the number of South West companies up eight percent compared to last year, it is testament to the entrepreneurial spirit and economic and job creating potential of companies from the region. Policy makers must continue to increase access to growth capital for these firms, which would in turn benefit the wider UK economy."
