Cirencester chippy, Malt & Anchor, has been crowned Best Fish and Chip Shop at The Food and Drink Awards.
The fish and chip shop picked up the award at the event hosted by Stephen Fry. The awards celebrate the unsung heroes and high achievers of the food and drink industry.
Malt & Anchor won for being 'no ordinary fish and chip shop'. Judges celebrated its traditional 'chippy' menu with a sophisticated twist, from panko coated calamari to locally sourced pies and fresh fish specials, with a speciality in 'fizz and chips'. Malt & Anchor's food is complemented by a handpicked array of fine wines, cocktails and boutique beers.
Since opening three years ago, director Dan Lafford has won much acclaim for his approach: everything is cooked fresh to order, serving the finest produce to the highest standards in a relaxing dining environment. Malt & Anchor prepares only MSC certified sustainable cod and haddock, meeting robust requirements for the protection of marine stocks from overfishing.
Other awards on the night included Best Organic Producer, Outstanding Achievement and A Life with Food - a special tribute to an unsung backroom hero of food and drink television programmes.
A committee of industry experts with a passion for fantastic British food, from haute cuisine and fine dining to down-to-earth street food selected the winners. The ceremony was also broadcast on ITV.
