County bank among Natwest closures

Natwest has just announced that is to close 43 banks - and a Gloucestershire branch is on the list.

Cheltenham's Bath Road branch is one of those set to close, as more and more customers choose to bank online.

The branch will close its doors for the last time on January 26, 2023.

Natwest said the Bath Road branch was used by three personal customers and 85 business customers on a regular basis during 2021.

The bank's Cheltenham Promenade branch is a mile away from Bath Road and there is a Post Office which can be used for banking just 0.03 miles from the branch.

In a statement on its website, Natwest said: "The way people bank with us has changed dramatically in recent years, with an increased demand for mobile and online services as customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank.

"Closing a branch is a decision we take very seriously. We know it can affect people who are less confident with the alternatives we offer, and we'll always work hard to guide you through the changes and find the best way to serve you from now on."

The Bath Road Natwest is the latest in a long line of bank branches to close in the county over the last year, in a trend which started long before the pandemic.

Stroud's Halifax is set to close in November, following the closure of the town's Barclays in January.

Lloyds banks closed in both Brockworth and Coleford in March this year, with Lloyds in Cinderford closing its doors for the last time on January 9, 2023.
