Council rejects plans for new gym

Plans to open a gym at a county business centre have been turned down by Stroud District Council officers.

The application was for a change of use from B1/B8 to a gym at a unit on Gabwell Business Centre, Quadrant Way, Hardwicke.

But the district council officers maintained that it is an important employment site and the gym would undermine this.

A council report said: "If very small non-traditional employment uses such as the proposed development continue to be allowed on the site, the cumulative effect will be the erosion of the capacity of the site to provide meaningful numbers of employment."

The officers said the plan did not comply with council policies and it was turned down.
