Council offices evacuated after grenade handed in

A council temporarily closed its offices and evacuated staff from the building after a grenade was handed in by a member of the public.

The weapon was presented to workers at Tewkesbury Borough Council by a member of the public who found it while metal detecting.

Gloucestershire Constabulary put up a cordon around the building at 2.10pm yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

The device was safely detonated by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team at around 4.45pm and the council offices were reopened shortly after.
