Go-ahead given for town's £2.3m redevelopment
23rd October 2017
A £2.3m regeneration scheme in Coleford has been unanimously approved by Forest of Dean District Council.
The Lawnstone Square project will see a new town square and gardens, a mix of high quality housing and commercial units suitable for small business start-ups on the vacant site next to the district council offices.
As well as improving the overall look of a prominent area of the town's High Street and the gateway to the historic clock tower, the Lawnstone Square (as illustrated) will provide the council with an income stream, which will be used to improve services for residents.
The initial plans were revisited by the design team, following a first round of public consultation where they received a mixed-response. The latest designs include the changes made as a result of the public feedback. A second round of consultation has now begun and will run until Friday 3 November.
The revised designs will be on display in the District Council's main reception, the foyer of the Main Place, Coleford Tourism Information Centre and Five Acres Leisure Centre reception.
Councillor Richard Leppington, cabinet member for development, asset management, planning policy, infrastructure and housing said: "These latest designs are testament to the fact that we've listened to feedback from residents and stakeholders and have updated the plans to produce an innovative development that will enhance the look and vitality of the town.
"This is our opportunity to provide new homes, commercial units and a public space right in the heart of Coleford and we encourage people to view the revised designs during this second round of consultation and let us know your views."
