Cotswold guest house sells for £1.1m

The Lansdowne Guest House in the tourism hotspot of Bourton-on-the-Water has changed hands following a deal brokered by Colliers International.

The 14-letting room guest house sold off an asking price of £1.1million after a particularly hectic bidding process.

Situated in one of the most popular towns in the heart of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Lansdowne has been bought by Rothney Investments and will now be operated as part of the Cotswold Cottage Gems portfolio.

Gemma Elizabeth, general manager of Rothney Investments said: "We are thrilled to welcome The Lansdowne 'Rooms with Breakfast' and its great team to the Cotswold Cottage Gems Portfolio.

"We already own and operate four Cotswold Cottages and look forward to showcasing our unique customer service and hospitality experience to the 7,000 or so guests who stay at The Lansdowne each year."

Just 200 yards from the picturesque centre of the village with its famous bridges over the River Windrush, The Lansdowne is an ideal base for exploring the town and wider region.

The Cotswold Motoring Museum is just down the road - along with a number of attractive pubs and eateries, a perfumery, model railway, pottery and the famous model village.

The Lansdowne 'Rooms with Breakfast' has 14 en suite bedrooms and has just been awarded The Hotels Combined certificate of excellence for customer satisfaction 2018.

The area grew up from a Roman camp and the Fosse Way, which runs along the western end of the village, helped establish the successful Cotswolds wool trade in the middle ages.

Peter Brunt from Colliers International's Hotels team said: "People looking to purchase the ideal pub or hotel business in the Cotswolds often start with Bourton-on-the-Water and the many other "honeypot" locations like Cheltenham, Burford, Stow, Chipping Campden and others of that ilk as customers flock to them in their thousands all year round.

"Bourton is a well-known tourism and visitor destination and The Lansdowne is just the right size to reap the benefits from this ever-popular location.

"Our vendor clients bought the hotel though me in December 2014 but have now decided to focus on alternative business opportunities having completed a very successful refurbishment and relaunch of The Lansdowne."
