Costwolds celebrity retreat building 140 new homes

A Cotwolds retreat of the rich and famous is building a new development of 140 new homes.

Lakes By Yoo near Lechlade is an idyllic paradise that has attracted the likes of Take That's Mark Owen and Jade Jagger.

Supermodels Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson, and designer to the stars, Philippe Starck have all had a hand in designing the existing 180 properties .

Now more luxury second homes are being added to the portfolio in partnership with estate owner Cygnet Investments.

Work on new development, Cotswolds Water, is already underway and the first home is due to be available in 2023. The estate will comprise of 77 houses and 63 apartments, in a similar setting to the existing properties on the Lakes estate.

Lakes By Yoo said the homes are being designed in the same high quality, luxurious style as the main estate, using natural materials and incorporate eco-friendly power and heating.

It said each property is being designed for those seeking "beautiful homes in a luxurious outdoor environment". And it claimed this is likely to be the "the last lakeside property development of its kind in the county."

Prices for a two-bedroom apartments will start at £765,000 ranging up to £1,100,000 with the four- and five-bedroom houses costing from £1.8m to £3.5m

The former quarry was bought by property mogul John Hitchcox in the early Noughties. Over the last 15 years the 850-acre estate of freshwater lakes, woodlands and meadows has established itself as the UK's answer to The Hamptons.

Some properties are available for rental, at a three-night minimum with a collection of new waterside cabins and apartments launching this summer.

The new 110 acre development neighbours the existing estate and is being created due to unprecedented demand for homes.

Giles Baker, managing director, The Lakes by YOO, said: "We are delighted to be partnering with Cygnet Investments to expand The Lakes by YOO's portfolio. Just 90-minutes from London, The Lakes by YOO at Cotswolds Waters will meet growing demands from city-dwellers in search of an outdoor escape.

"The Lakes by YOO has firmly established itself as the most exclusive staycation in the English countryside, and this extension creates even more opportunities for people and families to enjoy a rural luxury estate."
