Gloucester-based construction firm E G Carter & Co Ltd has partnered with Gloucester City Council and Allstone Speedy Skips to support a local charity.

Using the King's Square regeneration scheme as a hub for the partnership, E G Carter & Co Ltd will be swapping their normal skips for ones specially designed to raise money for The Nelson Trust.

E G Carter has committed to donating money to the charity every time a skip is filled and replaced throughout the project.

Sam Carter, director at E G Carter & Co Ltd said "We are delighted to be working alongside Gloucester City Council, Allstone and The Nelson Trust as we work together to try and raise money and awareness for a local Gloucestershire charity.

"As this particular project is in the heart of Gloucester, we know that by supporting The Nelson Trust will be helping the community of Gloucester. We are looking forward to making a real difference and its relationships like this one that will do just that".

Councillor Richard Cook, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: "I'm delighted that E G Carter & Co ltd have chosen a fantastic local charity who are doing really important work to turn around people's lives.

"It's initiatives like these that we believe our new Social Value Policy will encourage more of, as it sets up a framework for our suppliers to think about how they can put back into our community by enhancing local skills, wellbeing and supporting community led action."

The Nelson Trust is a local Charity based in Brunswick Square that provides second chances to individuals in long-term recovery whose lives have been torn apart by domestic violence, addiction and the multiple and complex needs that come with it.

Jo Fear, manager of The Nelson Trust Women's Centre in Gloucester said, "We are based in Brunswick Square, so we and our clients regularly visit King's Square, and we recognise how important this scheme is for the city.

"We are delighted that the team at E G Carter & Co Ltd have chosen to donate funds raised through the project to allow us to help more women thrive in our community. COVID-19 has added to the complexities of us delivering this vital support as well as dramatically increasing the range of issues women we support are facing. A massive thank you to everyone involved and we look forward to seeing the Square develop and change as the year goes on".

Over the last three years, E G Carter & Co Ltd has raised more than £50,000 for charities and work in the local community. This year they are supporting Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, The James Hopkins Trust, The British Heart Foundation and The Hollie Gazzard Trust.
