Close to 800 staff set to lose their jobs at Lloyds Bank

Close to 800 jobs will go at Lloyds Bank as part of its ongoing cost-cutting programme.

In a statement, the Unite Union revealed that the bank have informed its workforce across the UK that the equivalent of 780 full-time staff will lose their jobs this year.

Last week, the Bank who have one of their main UK offices at Barnwood in Gloucester, announced a 26 per cent drop in profits to £4.4billion, blaming the number of PPI claims for the slide.

That came less than a month after the group announced that 65 branches Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax branches were set to close.

A spokesman for Unite said the news was "deeply alarming" while Reuters are reporting that Lloyds are reducing the number of roles across its branch network.

Scott Doyle, Unite LBG committee chair, said: "The decision by Lloyds Banking Group to cut the equivalent of 780 staff from its branches is yet more evidence of the bank's profits over people culture.

"The Bank of Scotland, Lloyds and Halifax branches hit by the extensive staff cuts today will have sent shockwaves through the communities which are at present served by highly experienced bank staff."

According to the list published in January, none of the Gloucestershire branches of the three banks were earmarked for closure.
