A record-breaking 113 people in 29 teams attended this year's Nelson Trust Clay Shoot and Black-Tie Dinner on Friday May 10, at Berkeley Castle.

A key event in supporters' social calendar, the day raised an amazing £64,000 to help The Nelson Trust bring belief, hope and long-term recovery to the lives of those in rehabilitation from addiction and women with multiple and complex needs in the community.

Thanks to the generous invitation of Charles Berkeley, the current High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, the ancient Deer Park provided a perfect setting and a great challenge for all the teams at the shoot.

Charles said: "I am so proud to be involved with The Nelson Trust and that I am able to let the Castle and Deer Park support the shoot and dinner. This event continues to go from strength to strength and helps raise much-needed funds for many in need.

"We raised an amazing £64,000 this year but we could not host this event without the support of the fundraising committee, the staff at the Trust and volunteers on the day."

The Compton Castle team from Somerset won the Richard Lister Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy.

The Hub Bistro Café, based in Gloucester, cooked a delicious BBQ of venison burgers provided by the Berkeley Estate and served refreshments at the end of the shoot.

The Black-Tie Dinner, served in the historic Great Hall at Berkeley Castle, was a very special experience. Guests were then able to bid on 16 exciting auction lots generously donated to the Trust for the event.

Rob Lister, one of the event organisers and director of Lister Unified Communications, said: "It was another great day of sport and evening entertainment at Berkeley Castle. There were some very generous teams and bidders in the auction making the event a huge success."

The Nelson Trust Chair of Trustees, Dame Janet Trotter, spoke passionately about the work of the Trust as the guest speaker.

Dame Janet said: "Drug addiction impacts on all levels and areas of society. It affects individuals, the families who love them and society generally. By journeying with the individuals who are affected, the Trust helps to transform lives."

The next event in The Nelson Trust fundraising calendar is a private garden viewing at Foxley Manor on Sunday 2nd June.
