City road to close for essential repairs

A busy Gloucester road will be closed temporarily so improvements can take place.

The repairs to Calton Road are part of the county council's £150 million investment in Gloucestershire's Highways.

Calton Road is a busy residential area that links access to Calton Primary School and local businesses. The planned works will focus on repairing large areas of the road using a total of 244 tonnes of tarmac.

While the improvements are carried out Calton Road will be closed from 18th - 22nd December between 7:30am - 5:30pm.

A closure will also take place between Stroud Road and Linden Road during the same time.

Work on Linden Road to Tuffley Avenue, outside of Calton Primary School, will not happen until the school has closed for the holidays, starting on 20th December and due for completion on 22nd December.

There will be a diversion in place along the Stroud Road (B4072) during the works. Amey will be writing to residents with information on how to access their properties.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood said: "Investing in Gloucestershire's highways is important to residents, so it is important to the county council, which is why we're investing in £150 million worth of improvements."

Cllr Pam Tracey, county councillor for Hempsted and Westgate, said: "I am grateful for all the improvements GCC and Amey have carried out in the last 12 months to improve the roads in Gloucester. The scheme on Calton Road continues that excellent work.

"Residents have been requesting these improvements for a long time and I look forward to seeing this investment improve the local area."
