Cineworld lodge plans to expand - and add a Starbucks

Going to the cinema is about to become an even more immersive experience, if plans to expand Cineworld in Cheltenham are anything to go by.

The cinema in the Brewery Quarter have lodged plans with Cheltenham Borough Council to expand into the unit next door, that used to be the bar, Apres.

The plans would see changes made to the existing VIP Screening Rooms, along with the addition of a new bar and restaurant area and yes, a new Starbucks - Cheltenham's third.

The Starbucks would front on to the Brewery's pedestrian thoroughfare and will have external seating.

The new restaurant area will seat up to 102, with 12 covers catered for at the newly-situated bar to the rear of the old Apres unit.

The footprint of the Screening Room screens will be largely unaltered, but all three will be revamped to become 4DX screens.

A 4DX enables the films to be supplemented by environmental effects, with moving seats, wind, rain, lights and scents produced in line with the moving pictures.

Some seats will be lost, with the current three screens seating 39, 35 and 48 respectively, each with one additional wheelchair space.

The new 4DX cinemas, with specially curved screens will house 28, 34 and 42, each with an additional wheelchair space.

As part of the application new signage - both for Cineworld and Starbucks - and an advertising screen will front out on to the Brewery concourse.

The plans, lodged by Cineworld were received by the Council on April 15 and validated the next day.
