A Cinderford man has been sentenced to 64 weeks in prison for threatening to kill his ex-partner and assaulting a police officer.

Thomas Roy Nickless, aged 32, of Rosedale Court, Cinderford was arrested on Monday, September 4. He was charged the following day with threats to kill, assaulting a police officer, affray and sending an offensive/menacing message.

He appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 6, where he received a custodial sentence of 64 weeks' imprisonment and an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim.

Nickless had attended his ex-partner's home and began kicking the door of the property in an attempt to gain entry, shouting that he was going to stab and kill her.

Police officers attended the address where Nickless continued to be aggressive and violent towards them. He assaulted one of the officers as they restrained and arrested him.

Detective Inspector Gemma Davies said: "Nickless is a high-risk domestic abuse perpetrator and has a history of violent offending. Nickless was interviewed by officers from the criminal investigation unit who swiftly submitted evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service and got him charged and remanded to court.

"Domestic Abuse is an operational policing priority for Gloucestershire Constabulary. Our staff are committed to keeping people safe from harm and bringing offenders to justice.

"We will continue to work with victims and partner agencies to tackle domestic abuse. I would urge anyone suffering domestic abuse to come forward and report it so action can be taken to keep you safe."
