Christmas boost for homeware retailer Dunelm

Homeware retailer Dunelm - with outlets at Westgate Retail Park in Gloucester and the Centrum Retail Park in Cheltenham - saw a record performance in the run up to Christmas.
The retailer says sales for its second quarter were £407 million, that's 13% higher than the previous year and 26% higher than two years ago.
A strong online presence had combined with a "particularly encouraging growth from its stores".
Dunelm has 176 stores nationwide and said higher full-price sales of seasonal ranges boosted profits. It now expects the full year results to be 'materially ahead' of the market expectations.
The retailer predicts profits before tax for the first half of its financial year to be around £140 million, that's an increase on £112 million the previous year.
Nick Wilkinson, Dunelm chief executive, said: "We are delighted with our ongoing strong performance, which demonstrates the growing appeal of our homewares offer and includes some standout contributions from our furniture and seasonal categories."
The retailer launched a new digital platform in October 2019 before Covid which it says allowed the company to reach more customers with brand and specialist homewares products and improved the overall customer experience.
He added: "Our digital platform and capabilities also give us more confidence and ambition for the future.
"Whilst there are several macro uncertainties to be navigated, we feel well placed to continue to deliver profitable growth across all channels and grow market share as the first choice for home for UK home lovers."
