The Griffiths Marshall Foundation has provided a grant of £5,000 to Allsorts, a Gloucestershire-based charity which supports families with a disabled child.
Allsorts relies on the support of grants and donations to fund a wide variety of activities for disabled children to enjoy with their families, such as day trips, sports and fitness, toddler groups and community events.
The Griffiths Marshall Foundation's grant will go towards the provision of specialised swimming lessons for the children who Allsorts helps. These lessons, which take place at National Star College, are a key means for them to exercise, learn life skills and have fun. They have proved a massive success for the children and their families.
The Griffiths Marshall Foundation is a new charitable body, which awards grants to small and medium-sized charities in Gloucestershire which provide support and activities for children and young people who may be ill, disabled or financially disadvantaged.
Allsorts is the first charity to benefit from receiving a grant from the foundation, which meets three times a year to review the applications it receives.
Rachael Fletcher, fundraising manager at Allsorts, said: "The Allsorts team is deeply honoured to be the first recipient of The Griffiths Marshall Foundation Grant. This generous funding will support the continued success of our highly popular swimming programme, which offers incredible benefits to the children we support.
"Swimming is not only an excellent form of exercise but also a powerful tool for addressing obesity, reducing isolation, and fostering healthy, active lifestyles. Remarkably inclusive, it is a sport accessible to those with the most complex disabilities, making a profound difference in their lives."
Nuala Beardsall, a trustee of The Griffiths Marshall Foundation, said: "Allsorts is a perfect fit for the type of charity which the Griffiths Marshall Foundation is seeking to help. They support children and their families throughout Gloucestershire, providing them with essential opportunities for learning, socialising and having fun with their peers.
"We are delighted that our grant will help to ensure that the children can enjoy regular swimming lessons, which is such an important pastime."
