Children’s charities to benefit from 300 mile challenge

A team from a Gloucestershire construction firm is due to ride through the night through three countries to raise money for two life-changing children's charities.

Staff from the fourth generation £70 million turnover Gloucester head-quartered family business that is EG Carter will take on the 300 mile in one day challenge, starting on Friday (June 28).

Their journey will start in Gretna Green, Scotland, continue through the night into Wales until they reach their 300-mile mark back at Berkeley, Gloucestershire all in a 24-hour time frame.

Their aim - to raise money for Children with Cancer and The James Hopkins Trust and the fundraising target is raise £20,000. Total raised as of this morning when Punchline looked was £9,335.

All the cyclists have their own personal reasons for taking part in the challenge, some have lost loved ones, others currently going through hard times and some just want to stop children fearing the word cancer.

Craig Barnett, team manager of the Hills of Hope 300, said "This challenge will test us all, but the one thing we will not do is give up. We are all riding for a reason, and one thing we want to do is make a difference to as many children's lives as we can.

"Our aim is to try and raise not just money, but also awareness to help both children with cancer and children with life limiting conditions, we want to fight for them, and what better way to do this than to ride 300 miles in 24 hours.

"The team and I would like to say a big thank you to all our sponsors who have helped us with nutrition, clothing, drinks, donations and marketing. Without them we would not be as prepared as we currently are. Thank you."

Mr Barnett and the rest of the team are due to complete their challenge on Saturday (June 29).

Supports are expected to gather in Berkeley on Saturday afternoon to host a reception for the riders.
