Massive homes plan gets go-ahead
17th January 2018
Cotswold District Council yesterday gave approval for 2,530 new homes at Chesterton, Cirencester.
A special meeting of Cotswold District Council was held to give further consideration to the outline planning application by Bathurst Development Ltd for a mixed use development at Chesterton.
Plans include housing, employment space and associated facilities on land south of Chesterton. The proposal has received opposition from local people and a campaign group, Save Our Cirencester, was set up to fight the plans.
Today's meeting gave the members of CDC chance to carry out a rigorous examination of outstanding matters, including education, traffic management, sewage, and a letter from the Local Plan inspector (setting out changes to proposed main modifications).
The majority of councillors at the meeting voted to approve the outline planning application (17 for, nine against and three abstentions).
This follows news yesterday that controversial plans to build 500 homes at Up Hatherley on the outskirts of Cheltenham had been turned down by Tewkesbury Borough Council's planning committee.
