Cheltenham’s Promenade to close for resurfacing

The Promenade will be closed for six nights from tomorrow to enable roadworks to take place.

The area outside the Municipal Offices in Cheltenham will be closed to vehicles from 7pm-7am until June 23.

Hundreds of buses and taxis pass along this road on a daily basis, therefore during this period Stagecoach West have said that their services will be temporarily diverted.

Stagecoach bus services 10, 1, 66, 97, 98 and 94 will instead drop off and depart from the Royal Wells Bus Station.

Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) have said that the works are part of their promise to invest £150 million in the county's roads.

A spokesperson for the GCC highways team said: "Due to the type of engineering activities required with carriageway resurfacing, the road closure can cover an area greater than the area being resurfaced. This is to allow activities, such as movement and placement of machinery and material.

"We appreciate road closures are inconvenient, but in order to keep you and the team working on the road safe it is necessary. We have planned the work so we can be in and out as quickly as possible and have tried to do it at a time that will minimise any inconvenience."
