Cheltenham trainee solicitor secures international secondment

One of Cheltenham-based BPE Solicitors' trainees has secured a prestigious international secondment as a legal trainee at The UK Law Societies' joint Brussels office, based in the heart of the EU district.

Santos Hau, who is halfway through his training contract with BPE, will begin the three-month secondment in September.

The role will involve monitoring EU legal developments ranging from competition law to private international law; Attending high-level conferences and liaising with institutional and business stakeholders, including UK government departments; and drafting legislative update articles regarding developments in the corporate client and private client areas.

He said: ''I'm delighted that I have been offered this secondment and that BPE has supported me in this unique opportunity. Tech and AI are at the forefront of the EU's agenda and I'm excited to be able to use the knowledge I gain on secondment when I return to continue my training contract in BPE's Tech division".

Jo Bewley, head of property services and training principal, said: "We are very proud of Santos for achieving this secondment place. At BPE, we encourage trainees to take every opportunity they can to learn and grow, and this is a brilliant chance for Santos to experience different areas of law and to apply that learned knowledge when he returns to BPE".
