Prithvi in Cheltenham has been crowned the best restaurant in the South West at the British Curry Awards - dubbed the 'curry oscars' by the Prime Minister.
Jay Rahman, owner of Prithvi, said: "The British Curry Awards is a huge annual event on our calendar. This is the third time Prithvi has won the award, however this year we were thrilled to be able to celebrate with some new members of our team such as our JM Social's Michelin-starred Executive Chef, Keiron.
"With our dining experience in Prithvi, we've always tried to make the absolute best Indian-inspired dishes with the current season's ingredients - and we're incredibly thankful that our guests and judges have felt the same."
There are hundreds of Indian restaurants in the South West, with only four of them nominated for the award. The British Curry Awards' website revealed that this year's competition has 'received a record number of public nominations with many fantastic restaurants participating after a difficult year'.
Now in the 17th year, the event was hosted by actor Omid Djalili, with awards being presented by the likes of cricketer, Azeem Rafiq; Love Island contestant, Priya Gopaldas; former The Apprentice winner, Sian Gabbidon; TV presenters, Melinda Messenger, Lizzie Cundy, Faye Barker, Hayley Sparkes and Hayley Palmer, as well as radio presenter, James Whale and television GP, Dr Amir Khan.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson sent a message of support, including the words: "We're not just building back better, we're building back balti!"
