Cheltenham construction company celebrates 20 years in business

A local construction firm started by a father and son in 2002 has just celebrated its 20-year anniversary.

AMPM Construction, based in Cheltenham, now has an annual turnover of around £5 million and employs 40 skilled operatives, alongside more than 50 regular associated subcontractors.

Daniel Heaton, 39, founded the company with his father, 'Snowy' Heaton, while he was still at university. Daniel became managing director when his father stepped down from the business a couple of years ago and Jamie Barnfield, 30, joined the company as development director.

From humble beginnings providing 24/7 maintenance to Hartpury College, AMPM Construction now specialises in both domestic bespoke building projects and its historic commercial operations.

Daniel Heaton said: "I'm proud of the fact that we have grown as a company and evolved to meet our clients' needs. We undertake many listed building refurbishment and regeneration projects, as well as various key turn solutions and high-end extensions throughout the Cotswolds.

"Our projects are getting bigger and bigger year on year. Historically, we might have built a £50k extension, now we're building £3 million houses. It goes to show how we've become experts in our field. It's only by building to the highest specification that you also build your reputation."

On the commercial side, AMPM has a lot of big-name clients in Gloucestershire including Sudeley Castle, Cheltenham Racecourse, Hartpury College, Lilian Faithfull, East Glos Club, CBC and the Guiting Power Trust.

In fact, the company has such a good relationship with Sudeley, that it held its 20-year anniversary party there, with the unveiling of the AMPM-sponsored Birdsong Garden, in association with the Coexistence exhibition at Sudeley Castle.

AMPM recently joined The SITE Cheltenham, a collective of architects, planners and property professionals, all working under the same roof at a bespoke unit AMPM built during lockdown. It means clients get the very best support all the way through the construction process.

Daniel said: "We are delivering a high-end, bespoke, design and build service. We can hold your hand and deal with everything from concept through to completion. Once you've given us the brief, whether you've had your plans done or you have no idea where to start, The SITE can guide you through the process.

"Here's to the next 20 years, building on our success and satisfied customers. I can't thank our fantastic team, subcontractors and suppliers enough for their dedication, professionalism and friendship."
