Cheltenham chippie hooks first PLAICE in Britain's Top Takeaways

Award-winning Gloucestershire fish and chip shop, Simpsons, came first in the new BBC tv show, Britain's Top Takeaways this week.

Simpsons, which has three shops across the county, battled it out against four other fish and chip shops to take the prize, placing first with Adam and Amber, the father daughter duo from Hirds' Family Fisheries in Huddersfield.

Serving up their favourite to five families, the fish and chip shops were the first category to launch the new TV show which aired on BBC Two on Monday, May 9 at 8pm.

Simpsons received high praise for their gluten free fish batter which created a much lighter, crispier texture.

"We're so proud that our food is as well loved by others," said Bonny Ritchie, founder of Simpsons.

"It was some tough competition but we're really pleased with the result!"

Simpsons Cheltenham store opened in 2009 and was also awarded the coveted title of UK's Best Takeaway by Seafish in the National Fish & Chip Awards 2016.
